A wish

Hannah has aplastic anemia, a serious blood disorder. It’s a diagnosis that has meant regular hospital visits for some pretty tough treatment.

“She needed [bone marrow] transplants twice a week for a month,” Hannah’s mom explained. All this time in hospital takes its toll. Aside from dealing with the physical effects of her illness and treatment, Hannah also faced something all too common to many seriously ill young people – loneliness. Her illness has made it difficult for Hannah to go to school or spend time with her friends. Because of this, Hannah wished for a very special and loyal companion – a puppy! “I always wanted a puppy because I was home a lot and couldn’t go out much,” said Hannah. The day of Hannah’s wish finally arrived, and Make-A-Wish delivered a gorgeous pug puppy named Alfred into the arms of a very excited Hannah. She was over the moon as she cradled her new furry friend in her arms. Alfred’s arrival was made even more special by some very generous local pug breeders who were inspired by her wonderful wish. They donated everything Alfred would need – food, toys, beds, a puppy pen, and more! The impact of Hannah’s wish will be with her for many years to come. She doesn’t need treatment as frequently anymore now, and is hoping to be able to spend more time at school next term. Throughout that transition and well beyond, Alfred will be a constant companion to Hannah, giving her hope, strength and joy well into the future.”
